Latinx Voices: Performances You Won’t Want to Miss!

It’s Latinx Heritage Month! All month, we’ll be highlighting the incredible artistry of the Latinx singers and directors in our community as well as uplifting local Latinx organizations that need your support.

Now more than ever, virtual recitals are being produced and shared with audiences across the country. We have gathered three performances celebrating the artistry and music of Latinx musicians and composers that you won’t want to miss!

Tenor David Portillo and pianist Allen Perriello perform songs by Obradors and Guastavino

Tenor David Portillo and pianist Allen Perriello perform songs by Obradors and Guastavino

David Portillo, a Minneapolis based tenor with a “vibrant, liquid” sound, sings along side Minnesota Opera’s Head of Music, Allen Perriello, in Episode twenty-two of Austin Opera’s Live From Indy Terrace. This masterful program of Spanish-language selections includes gorgeous songs by Obradors and Guastavino.

Tenor Alejandro Magallón and bass-baritone Rodolfo Nieto return to celebrate the Latinx community through the vivacious music of México. This recital features Israel Aranda, Vihuela Pamela Mayorga, Jarana Huasteca, Yumhali García on Violín, and Mauricio Sanchez on Guitarrón.

Our Resident Artists have been exploring the music of Latinx composers to celebrate Latinx Heritage month! Watch Minnesota Opera Resident Artists Leah Brzyski and Celeste Johnson perform “Gracia mía” from Canciones Amatorias by Enrique Granados.
