The Art vs. The Artist
This panel discussion explores the conflict between the controversial lives of certain composers and the decision to produce their work. Specifically, many opera companies throughout the country have recently expressed their support for more equity, diversity, and inclusion in the industry. Should the artists and their works also reflect those values? Should certain composers and their operas be left for the history books? Panelists will examine the history Wagner’s antisemitism, the relationship between classical music and communities of color, and the role of artistic leaders in the age of anti-racism and anti-oppression.
This video will be available Nov. 6-28.
