Yueqi Zhang

Yueqi Zhang is a collaborative pianist and opera coach whose work spans major training programs and professional opera institutions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Recognized for his stylistic sensitivity and dramatic insight, he is equally at home in rehearsal rooms, recital halls, and mainstage productions.

Zhang has served on the music staff of leading festivals and young artist programs, including the Glimmerglass Festival, where he worked as a rehearsal pianist and vocal coach, collaborating on multiple productions alongside artists such as countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. He later joined the Aspen Music Festival as an Opera Coaching Fellow and the Music Academy of the West as a Vocal Piano Fellow, contributing to productions of Hänsel und Gretel, Don Giovanni and numerous concert projects. He was awarded the Shirley and Seymour Lehrer Scholarship in Vocal Piano in recognition of his artistic achievement.

At the Butler Opera Center at the University of Texas at Austin, Zhang currently serves as a Teaching Assistant and member of the music staff. His recent work includes productions of La Traviata, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, The Ghosts of Versailles, Le Nozze di Figaro, Cendrillon, Il Trittico, and world premiere of the opera Downwind.

In summer 2026, Zhang joins the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera as rehearsal pianist for Ariadne auf Naxos and Peter Brook’s La Tragédie de Carmen.

Earlier in his career, Zhang served for three years as a vocal coach at the Manhattan School of Music and worked on the music staff at New York University. He has appeared in recital at venues including Mixon Hall as part of the Cleveland Art Song Festival.

Zhang holds degrees in Collaborative Piano and Voice Performance and is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Opera Coaching at the University of Texas at Austin.
