Tessa McQueen

Soprano, Tessa McQueen, from Loveland, CO is pursuing her Master of Music in Voice Performance at Rice University and will graduate in May 2024. Tessa is currently under the tutelage of Nova Thomas. This season at Rice she will sing the Female Chorus in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. This summer, Tessa will join the San Francisco Opera as a Merola Young Artist where she will cover the role of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. In the summer of 2023, Tessa joined Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist covering Marguerite in Faust. Tessa is an alum of Oklahoma City University (BM ‘19, Voice Performance) where she performed the title role of Susannah, Cendrillon, and Marie in The Bartered Bride. Tessa was a Studio Artist at Central City Opera in 2022 singing the role of Krystyna Zywulska in the newly edited regional premiere of Jake Heggie’s Two Remain (Out of Darkness). At the end of the summer, Tessa earned the prestigious Young Artist of the season award and was a season sponsored artist by the El Pomar Foundation. Most recently, Tessa placed 3rd in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition in December of 2023. She is a two-time Tulsa District winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, advancing to the region in 2023, placing 3rd at the Midwest Region in 2022, and earning an Encouragement Award in 2021 at the Tulsa District. Ms. McQueen looks forward to joining the Minnesota Opera as a Young Artist for the 2024-2025 season.
