Museop Kim
Korean-American Baritone, Museop Kim has been attracting attention around New York for his mellifluous but masculine vocal timbre and his tall, handsome appearance on stage.
A graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center, Museop Kim has performed with Los Angeles Opera, where he sang Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette (Plácido Domingo, conductor) and Schaunard in La bohème (Patrick Summers, conductor), and understudied Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. The previous season, he performed Marullo in Rigoletto and A Noble in Lohengrin (James Conlon, conductor), and A Thug in the world premiere of Daniel Catan’s Il Postino (Grant Gershon, conductor). He also understudied the Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro (Plácido Domingo, conductor) and Il Poeta in Il Turco in Italia ( James Conlon, conductor). During the past year, he has performed Junius in their production of The Rape of Lucretia, Dancairo in Carmen, and in their production of Billy Budd. He also debuted with the Spoleto Festival, U.S.A in Facing Goya by Michael Nyman. Recently, he sang the role of English Ambassador in the west coast premier of The Ghost of Versailles with Los Angeles opera.
Elsewhere, Mr. Kim has appeared at Seattle Opera as the Interpreter/2nd Doctor in the world premiere of Daron Hagen’s Amelia (Stephen Wadsworth, director, Gerard Schwarz, conductor); Wolf Trap Opera as Escamillo in Carmen with the National Symphony Orchestra (Stephen Lord, conductor), Voltore in John Musto’s Volpone, (Peter Kazaras, director), Le comte Ory (Chuck Hudson, director, Robert Wood; conductor), The Juilliard Opera Center as Jupiter in Orphée aux enfer (John Pascoe, director and Anne Manson, conductor), Simeon in L’enfant prodigue (Lillian Groag, director) and the Reporter in Miss Lonelyhearts (Ken Cazan, director and Andreas Delfs, conductor), and the Aspen Music Festival as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor (Pat Diamond, director and George Manahan, conductor).
Other roles he has performed include Dandini from La Cenerentola, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Marcello in La bohème, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, Frank in Puccini’s Edgar, and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Mr. Kim earned an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School, Master of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and Bachelor of Music from Seoul, Korea. He has been a prize winner at the Washington International Competition for Singers, Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Singing Competition, Liederkranz Foundation Singing Competition, Aspen Music Festival Concerto Competition, and the Metropolitan Opera National Council New York District.
