In her first season as a Resident Artist at Minnesota Opera, Mary Box has been on music staff for La rondine, Silent Night, The Italian Straw Hat, and The Fix. This spring, she will be the principal rehearsal pianist for La traviata.
This summer, Mary returns to Lucca, Italy for her second season as a staff pianist at the Accademia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti, studying opera conducting with Dean Williamson.
Prior to her appointment in Minnesota, Mary has played for productions at Opera San Antonio, Sarasota Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Crested Butte Music Festival, and Rice University.
As an orchestral keyboardist, Mary has performed with the Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Crested Butte Music Festival Orchestra, Rice University Opera Orchestra, Eastman Wind Ensemble, and the Minnesota Opera Orchestra.
Equally at home in educational venues, Mary organized and presented over 60 outreach concerts in twelve weeks in North Dakota and Minnesota as the Young Artist Program Director of Fargo-Moorhead Opera. She also spent four summers as a pianist/coach for Art of Opera, a high school opera camp with Houston Grand Opera’s HGOco.
Mary has presented recitals with Barry Banks in Aspen, Colorado, as well as Ricardo Rivera-Soto and Thomas Glass at Rice University.
A graduate of Eastman’s Arts Leadership Program through their Institute for Music Leadership, Mary created the New York Philharmonic’s social media presence as a marketing intern. She is a constant advocate for creating new audiences to ensure that classical music thrives.
Mary holds a master’s degree in vocal coaching from Rice University, a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Houston, and a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music.
