Kara Morgan

Kara Morgan is a singing actress seeking out and lending her artistry to projects that broaden minds and inspire others. Career highlights include mainstage credits with Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Pacific Opera Project, and An Opera Theatre; apprenticeships with Merola Opera, Sarasota Opera and Santa Fe Opera; and recognition from the Schubert Club and Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competitions. This spring, Kara concludes her time as a member of the opera studio at Yale University with performances of Mother Goose in The Rake’s Progress, Anna I in Kurt Weill’s ballet chanté 7 Deadly Sins, and Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer with the Yale Philharmonia. Kara also makes her company debut with Salt Marsh Opera, singing the role of L’enfant in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges in March. She will spend Summer 2024 in San Francisco as a member of the prestigious Merola Opera program.

The previous year at Yale, Kara reprised the titular character in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia and debuted the role of Isolier in Le comte Ory before singing Romeo in an abridged production of I Capuleti e i Montecchi with local Minnesota arts organization Mixed Precipitation. Prior to her residency in Connecticut, Kara was based in Minneapolis as she sang with companies like An Opera Theatre (The Rape of Lucretia, April 2022), Pacific Opera Project (Hansel and Gretel, October 2021), Sarasota Opera (Dido and Aeneas, March 2021), and Fargo-Moorhead Opera (Così fan tutte, February 2019; Carmen, April 2019; Hansel and Gretel, October 2019). While a student at Drake University and the New England Conservatory, Kara was heard in roles such as Mrs. Soames (Our Town), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Grimgerde (Die Walküre), Madame de Croissy (Dialogues of the Carmelites) and Ottone (Agrippina).

Being born and raised just north of the Twin Cities makes this season’s company debut all the more meaningful for Kara. A student of two Minnesota Opera favorites, Victoria Vargas and Adriana Zabala, Kara is honored to continue their legacy while enjoying the rare privilege of singing at home.
