Eric “Pogi” Sumangil

ERIC “POGI” SUMANGIL believes strongly in the power of 90s R&B and a good burger. Born and raised in Minneapolis, he is a playwright, actor, director, fight director, and intimacy director. He has training from Intimacy Coordinators of Color, Theatrical Intimacy Education, and Open Intimacy Creatives, and in 2026 was accepted into a cohort to become a Certified Sensitivity Specialist with Ann James & Associates.

His intimacy work has been featured at the University of Minnesota’s University Opera Theatre (Street Scene, Le Nozze di Figaro), and Anoka Ramsey Community College (Spring Awakening). His fight work has been featured at Barkada Theater, Plymouth Playhouse, Theater Mu, and Flower Shop Project.

As an actor, he has worked with Park Square Theatre, Guthrie Theater, Jungle Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, Mo’olelo Performing Arts, Theater Mu, Ten Thousand Things, Children’s Theatre Company, Mixed Blood, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, and Frank Theater.

Pogi brings decades of work as a consent and bystander intervention educator and sexual violence prevention specialist to the rehearsal room and performance spaces. He is passionate about making the world a better place through live performance and hopes that some of the concepts and practices he prioritizes in his intimacy work are taken out of the rehearsal room and replicated in other arenas as well.
