Andrew Whitfield
Andrew Whitfield joined the music staff of Minnesota Opera during the fall of 2018 as chorus master and assistant conductor after having served as guest chorus master the previous spring for MN Opera’s production of Thaïs. Prior to moving to the Twin Cities, Whitfield lived in the bay area for nine years where he worked at the San Francisco Opera as prompter, San Francisco Symphony as Cover/Assistant Conductor, and Resident Conductor and Chorus Master at Opera San José. While at Opera San José he conducted 16 different productions including Falstaff, Der fliegende Holländer, Hansel and Gretel, Tosca, La Rondine, Il Trovatore, and La bohème. As assistant conductor he has worked with many notable conductors including Jane Glover, Edward Gardner, Semyon Bychkov, Susanna Mälkki, Krzysztof Urbanski, and Pablo Heras-Cassado. This spring Whitfield will make his conducting debut at MN Opera in their production of La Traviata.
