Allen Michael Jones

Rising young bass Allen Michael Jones continues to gain recognition in major theaters around the world. Allen Michael Jones will begin his 2024-25 season returning to Atlanta Opera in La bohème as Colline. Other performances will include his return to Minnesota Opera in Snowy Day as Billy/Ensemble, his role debut of Il Re in Aida with Dayton Opera, and his company debut with Opera Omaha as Farmer Boggis in Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Highlights of his 2023-2024 season included a debut with Dutch National Opera in the world premiere of Ellen Reid’s The Shell Trial as Laborer, a debut with the Neville Holt Festival as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, and his return to the role of Colline in La bohème with Florentine Opera. Mr. Jones began the 2022-2023 season as Colline in La bohème for his company debut with Nashville Opera, a role he then reprised at Pensacola Opera. He was then heard as the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly with his hometown company, Atlanta Opera, and returned to Minnesota Opera as Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni. He ended his season at Des Moines Metro Opera in the role of Zuniga in Carmen.

In the summer prior to the season, Jones returned to the Santa Fe Opera as a member of the renowned Apprentice Artist program. During his two summers in Santa Fe, he was heard as the Officer in Il barbiere di Siviglia and as Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, a role he sang with Dallas Symphony under the baton of Fabio Luisi. A former resident artist with Minnesota Opera, Jones was heard in performances as Zuniga in Carmen, Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring, and appeared in concerts and performances specifically produced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also enjoys a strong relationship with Toledo Opera where he performed the role of Ferrando in Il trovatore, and where he was scheduled to sing Father in Blue and Ramfis in Aida, both unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic. Jones was also a Resident Artist with Michigan Opera Theatre where he performed as Masetto in Don Giovanni, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, Balthanzar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Maximillian in Candide, and sang multiple roles in Ricky Ian Gordon’s Grapes of Wrath.

Also a gifted composer, Jones is a proud graduate of Morehouse College where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Composition before going on to earn his Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance form Georgia State University.
