The Women of The Song Poet

The Women of The Song Poet, premiering on Facebook on March 30 at 7:00 pm, will be the first time that St. Paul, MN author Kao Kalia Yang and her sister, St. Paul-based lawyer Der Yang, have talked publicly about the depiction of their deep sisterhood that runs through all of Kao Kalia’s writing. The sisters will talk about their family journey from the high mountains of Laos to St. Paul, a journey described in The Song Poet, the book upon which Minnesota Opera’s upcoming youth opera is based. Kao Kalia and Der will also read their favorite sections from The Song Poet and hear for the first time the duet “Sisters Are Life Partners, Too” from the opera composed by Jocelyn Hagen and Bee Yang.
