The Score (2021-2023)
It’s time to put opera on game, Scorekeepers! Hosts Lee Bynum (former MNOp Vice President, Impact), Paige Reynolds (former MNOp Civic Engagement Manager), and Rocky Jones (MNOp Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Director) are three Black, queer artists and pop culture aficionados, who are working every day to make the arts more diverse, inclusive, and accessible. Named one of “The Podcasts Opera Pros Tune To” by The New York Times in October 2021, The Score is a provocative, thoughtful, and humorous commentary on opera’s past, present, and future, as seen through an antiracist and anti-oppressive lens. Each episode features stories from a variety of perspectives that bring People of the Global Majority, queer, trans and nonbinary folks, and everyone else with a marginalized identity into the discussion of ownership over and access to the art form. From the opera house to the statehouse to your house, each episode amplifies the voices of those in the field who are pushing the boundaries of what opera is, who it is for, and how it can transform us and our communities.
MN Opera’s version of The Score is no longer in production. However, we invite you to enjoy the show’s archives below. A new, independent version of The Score begins production in Fall 2024, with episodes released every other Tuesday.
