Center Opera 60th Anniversary Celebration

Tuesday – January 9 – 6:30pm
Luminary Arts Center

On January 9, 1964, Center Opera made its debut at the Guthrie Theater. An avant-garde company and the offshoot of the Walker Art Center, Center Opera would come to be known as the Minnesota Opera. 60 years later, we celebrate that important evening and the collaboration that endures between these important arts organizations.

You’re invited to toast the new year with the leaders of the Guthrie Theater, MN Opera, and the Walker Art Center on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of opening night of Center Opera.  The celebratory gathering will feature musical performances by tenor Andrew Stenson–Nemorino in our upcoming The Elixir of Love–and MN Opera Resident Artists. Additionally, a panel discussion with Joseph Haj, Ryan Taylor, and Mary Ceruti will be moderated by MN Opera’s immediate Past Board Chair Nadege Souvenir. The group will reflect on the shared history of their organizations as cultural visionaries that make Minnesota an extraordinary incubator for the arts – and on this community’s shared interest in the risks, rewards, and impact of creating new work.

This event is free to you as a benefit of being a loyal patron of the arts. Registration is required.
