Fumiyasu Kawase

FUMIYASU KAWASE, collaborative pianist and vocal coach, always brings a flourishing emotion and passion to his performance. For the 2023-2024 season, Mr. Kawase was a member of the Baumgartner Studio Artist program The Florentine Opera. 

 

. As a collaborative pianist, specializing in vocal repertoire, he has participated in various opera productions as a repetiteur. His operatic repertoire includes: Rinaldo, Mitridate, Re di Ponto, Cosi Fan Tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, La Traviata, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, La Bohème, Old Maid and the Thief, and The Tender Land. He has also served as a vocal coach at Manhattan School of Music.  

 

In 2021, Mr. Kawase had the distinct honor of performing at the celebration of the Japanese Emperor’s birthday for the Japanese Ambassador to the United States in New York. He has performed in Master Classes with luminaries in the operatic sphere such as Thomas Hampson, Warren Jones, Craig Terry, David Portillo, Tamara Willson, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Howard Watkins, and Bryan Wagorn. He has performed and served on music staff at many institutions such as the Art Song Festival in Cleveland, Opera Neo, and Chicago Summer Opera. During his tenure at Florentine Opera, Mr. Kawase joined the orchestral forces as a continuo player in L’elisir d’amore,piano in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and La Péricole. Mr. Kawase holds degrees in piano performance from Nihon University of Art in Japan, and received a Professional Studies certificate in collaborative piano from the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Warren Jones, where he was also the recipient of the prestigious President’s Award.
