The Lab Theater
The LAB Theater is a 6,000 square foot warehouse turned playing space. Converted into a performance venue by The Guthrie Theater, who sought a “Laboratory” space for experimental and unique works, the building, not unlike the neighborhood it resides in, is rich in history. With time, the theater has taken on new ownership and grown, feeling like home to a number of independent productions. Its accommodating capacity and stunning brick walls lend the ultimate backdrop to each and every production.
Across the street from the Lab is a parking lot designated for theater parking. Pull your car into any spot marked “Lab” any time after 6PM, and remember your number. Tell the box office attendant which space you parked in, and pay the $5 fee. Do not park in spots designated for other companies, private citizens, or Minnesota Opera staff; vehicles will be towed.
If the lot is full, there is another paid lot directly next to the Lab lot where you can pay at a machine. Street parking is free after 6pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. For more information on street parking, visit the Minneapolis Parking website for an interactive meter map, and guides to street parking.
The Lab Theater is located just half a mile west of the 1st St N & & 1st Ave N bus stop, and about a mile from the Warehouse District Lightrail Station. Visit the Metro Transit website for more information.
Please Note: Minnesota Opera performs at the Ordway in St. Paul. Only select performances take place at the Lab Theater.
