About the Resident Artist Program

Glam Jam is a benefit event for the Minnesota Opera Resident Artist Program.

For 27 years, the Resident Artist Program has been a critical part of MN Opera’s mission to advance the art of opera for today and future generations. Your gift makes it possible for us to continue the work of preparing these artists for successful careers in the opera industry, both here in Minnesota and beyond. Thank you for your commitment to securing the future of opera.

Highly selective:  The MNOP Resident Artist Program application numbers for the 2024-2025 set a record at 984 applicants. This number of applications affirms the strong reputation of Minnesota Opera’s Resident Artist Program in the Opera community. From this number of applications, 5 artists were selected to join the program for the 2024-2025 season.  (.5% acceptance rate!)

Career Outcomes:  Our matriculated class of Resident Artists from the 2023-2024 season all leave Minnesota Opera with contracts for the upcoming season. They will practice their craft at companies such as Santa Fe Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Pensacola Opera, Madison Opera, and Minnesota Opera. This is a testament to the world-class level of instruction and opportunity that exists at Minnesota Opera.

Professional Development:  During their time at Minnesota Opera, Resident Artists receive training and guidance from world-class musicians that include MNOP Head of Music and Director of the Resident Artist Program Mario Antonio Marra, MNOP Principal Conductor Christopher Franklin, and guest teachers such as John Churchwell of San Francisco Opera and acclaimed pianist, conductor, and master teacher Warren Jones. Resident Artists are also exposed to the inner workings of the company, with access granted to members of the Advancement, Development, Marketing, and Production departments so that they have a full understanding of the art form from an administrative perspective. The goal of this wholistic approach to training is to ensure that artists coming through the program are poised to commit themselves to this beautiful art form and become its future leaders.
