Gioachino Rossini

Gioachino Rossini’s parents were both working musicians who taught and encouraged him at home until he eventually enrolled at the Liceo Musicale in Bologna. After graduation, Rossini was commissioned by the Venetian Teatro San Moise and La Scala Theater to compose and write operas, quickly becoming Italy’s most prominent composer at the age of 20.

Cinderella

Rossini composed Cinderella, during an especially busy period that followed the premiere of The Barber of Seville in February 1816. Worried about the fast and furious rehearsal process of the opera, the cast was quite tense on opening night. The show as a success, and Cinderella has become one of Rossini’s most popular operas.
