Presented by Project Opera, Minnesota Opera’s premiere youth training program, Belongings explores the stories of two groups of children across two time periods who are forced to flee their homes because of war. Project Opera’s performers step into the shoes of young people just like them—children and teenagers with the same aspirations and dreams who were simply born into different circumstances.

Accompanied by their schoolteacher, Helen, a group of evacuees board the train from London to Lewes to escape the Blitz, singing of the exciting adventure they anticipate in the countryside.

The process behind Belongings began with a simple directive from Glyndebourne – to come up with a suitable story for an opera that would place a large group of young people at the centre of the action.
