Application – Vice President, Artistic

Minnesota Opera changes lives by bringing together artists, audiences, and community, advancing the art of opera for today and for future generations. The company is seeking candidates for the position of Vice President, Artistic. This position plays a critical role in the overall health and growth of Minnesota Opera, directly managing staff responsible for the vocal and instrumental divisions of the company. Reporting to the President and General Director and collaborating with the Vice-Presidents of Production and Impact, the position works to plan and execute annual performance seasons in accordance with the company’s standard of musical and dramatic quality as well as its diversity charter. The VP, Artistic will be an innovative, passionate lover of opera who helps facilitate long-range artistic strategy in line with the company’s mission and vision, and its anti-racist, anti-oppressive priorities, while continuing to broaden the brand and reputation of the organization across the State and throughout the opera industry. The successful candidate will bring an extensive knowledge of operatic repertoire, both from the inherited canon as well as current new works, and will have an innate curiosity about developing the works of the future in a collaborative way that centers artists and creatives. Additionally, the Vice President, Artistic serves on the Arts Partnership Artistic committee, offering leadership and support for the artistic stewardship of the organization. The Arts Partnership is a collective organization made up of the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and its resident partners, including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Schubert Club, and MN Opera.
