Application — Technical Director

The Technical Director (TD) plays a critical role in the management of the technical aspects for production and key oversight for the Minnesota Opera (MNOP) campus. The TD, in conjunction with the Vice President of Production, takes an active role in facilitating communication with scenic, props, electrics, projections, sound, and scene shop personnel, facilities management, and Minnesota Opera leadership to ensure all departments are informed about designs, changes, and technical planning for each production. The TD has a primary responsibility to oversee the research and development, engineering, construction, installation, maintenance, and transfer of scenery (built, purchased, rented, or otherwise) for all productions produced and presented by Minnesota Opera including Ordway and Luminary productions, Youth Opera productions, site-specific productions, galas, special events, and community programs (referred to throughout this document as “productions”), under the direction of the company’s Vice President of Production (VPP). The TD works in collaboration with the Assistant Technical and Facilities Director (ATFD) and Facilities Manager to advise on the safety, maintenance, security, structural health and cleanliness of the MNOP campus, including the Opera Center, Luminary Arts Center, Warehouse, along with any parking facilities affiliated with MNOP. The TD performs a leadership role to help create and support a working and producing environment that is artistically satisfying, professional, and safe in alignment with the company’s diversity charter, mission and vision.
